The Ringdown and Decoda collaboration was sparked in the spring of 2024 by a Carnegie Hall commission as a pairing for the 80th anniversary of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. The outcome was a twelve-minute work, Every Stone in Cambridge Reminds Me of You, composed by Ringdown’s Caroline Shaw and Danni Lee Parpan for the pop-chamber duo and chamber music collective.
Decoda and Ringdown join together again in the 2026-2027 season for a series of workshops to create Reverberations - art love story, part history project.
Reverberations is a conversation across time. Inspired by the intimate correspondence between iconic pairings such as Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein, Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms, Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten, and more, Reverberations traces some of history’s most meaningful artistic kinships and explores the profound relationship between inspiration and imagination, revealing an interconnected web of musical influence.
In a full-length concert, to premiere on May 15, 2027 at Carnegie Hall, Ringdown and Decoda weave together music created by these luminary composers with new original works whose lyrics and music illuminate the hidden dimensions of their relationships—personal inspirations, unspoken struggles, and lasting societal echoes. At once seekers and storytellers, Ringdown and Decoda use poetry and sound as their medium to reveal how the past ripples ever outward, forging an interconnected web of affinities, resonances, and connection.
