Lincoln Mosaic is an original, multi-genre musical work created by 20 incarcerated composers at South Carolina’s Lee Correctional Institution with Decoda, Carnegie Hall’s Affiliate Ensemble, and hip-hop artist and cultural strategist Benny Starr. Through historical research and honest, unflinching dialogue, the piece explores Lincolnian America, the legacy of the Thirteenth Amendment, and enduring questions of democracy, citizenship and belonging.
The December residency is one of three period Decoda and hip-hop artist Benny Starr are facilitating with the incarcerated composers at Lee Correctional Institution.
